The church invited the preschool students to participate in this summer’s vacation bible school. It was very low-key in terms of the religious component, so we decided to let the kids participate. I am so glad we did. They had a blast making crafts, playing games, learning how things grow, and how animals make food.
Each day the children gave an offering to an organization that helps children who have been orphaned by AIDS in Africa. Samantha came home yesterday and announced she wanted to give all the coins in her piggy bank to the little children in Guatemala… I was shocked, squeezed her tightly and told her she was the sweetest little girl and how proud I was that she was my daughter.
Here are some pics of the kiddos with their crafts.
We have seen a black racer snake around a few times this summer, but this afternoon Fred and the newly named “Robbie racer” had a close encounter. I literally saw a black flash go past me as I was taking out the trash. Fred was right behind him and trapped him under the steps. As we tried to lure Fred out from the steps, Robbie rattled his tail like a rattlesnake… no worries though, Robbie is a good snake (as Aidan calls him).
We are happy that Robbie wants to live on Wild Azalea Lane, since he will keep the copperheads away, in addition to moles and other pests! Rahul caught this picture of most of Robbie as we all watched him try to escape from Fred.
Samantha officially starts ballet lessons in the fall (she has been asking for a while), but I went ahead and got her an outfit for her classes today when we went shopping at Target after her dentist appt. Could she be any cuter???
Now we are off to our special lunch before picking Aidan up from school… dentist days are fun days in the Shimpi Family 🙂
The playroom started out as a nursery, and as we prepare for the kids to go off to “big kid school” next month, I thought it might be time for an update. Here are some before and after pics. I love how we can display their artwork and it also be a part of the decorations!
I stumbled upon some long, curly brown hair in the trash can this morning, and as soon as I saw Samantha at preschool pick up, I knew what she had done… She cut off her bangs and “special curl” b/c they bothered her. She wore her head band this morning, which is why no one noticed her special hair cut. I will miss the special curl, but know it will come back. What will not be coming out any longer unless mommy and daddy are watching are the scissors!
Here is a picture of Samantha’s new hair style and the evidence.
Oscar and Wiley came over this afternoon. The kids had a blast cooling off in the sprinkler. Here are some pics of the fun!
The back yard makeover has officially started!
First step: clear out all the weeds, smalls trees, and tree logs on the ground. Second step: pool and concrete decking installed. Third step: move vegetable gardens to the back yard and landscape around pool.
This is a huge project that will take some time, but I am proud to report that step one has been completed!
