Now, I have been going to Perry Harrison at least once or twice a week for work since 2004, but today Rahul and I took Aidan and Samantha there for their first day at “big kid school.” Aidan is in Kindergarten, and Samantha is in the pre-k.
Both kids did really well at drop off. Aidan was happy to say goodbye to mommy and daddy, pulling out some Kinex toys to play with after putting up his book bag. Samantha was super brave and waved bye bye to us after lots of kisses.
Samantha’s response at pick up was huge. We walked into her classroom and she said “no, I do not want to leave!” I will take that as a fun first day.
Aidan told us about meeting the PE teacher, having lunch in the cafeteria, telling his teachers all the things he knew (screening part of the day).
I am so happy that my children are going to Perry Harrison. It helps that I know the faculty and staff in terms of mommy’s comfort level (haha), but I think both of our kids are ready for big kid school!
The kids found a praying mantis in the front yard this afternoon. They captured him in their butterfly net container, but after a while decided to set him free. This little guy really liked being with Aidan and wanted to stay with him for a while longer 🙂
Here is the latest picture of our pool construction. Next steps: electrical work and decking. I am already thinking of landscaping ideas….must be patient, though (Rahul says I am worse than the kids 🙂
Pool construction officially started today. The kids are having a blast playing on “dirt mountain” this afternoon. George, of course, had to inspect the giant hole 🙂
More work tomorrow and Saturday.
Aidan has been getting speech & language therapy since he was 2 1/2 years old. We were so lucky to find Elisabeth at The Center for Speech, Language, & Learning. She worked with Aidan during the good times, and the more challenging times. We decided this summer it was time to check on Aidan’s progress. Like we suspected, it seems like Aidan is exactly where he needs to be for Kindergarten. It is hard to believe, but next Monday will be Aidan’s last session with Elisabeth. Going to see Elisabeth has been a part of our weekly routine for so long, it will be strange not to go see her every week. We will always be grateful for all that she did to help Aidan! Here is a picture of Aidan and Elisabeth during today’s session.
Rahul and I went to see Coldplay on Thursday night. We made it an official “date night” and got dinner before the concert. The kids love Coldplay, and Aidan can sing a mean Viva La Vida, but they are not concert-age just yet. We did give them the free Left Right Left Right Left CDs given out at the show, and that seemed to make them happy for now. We will definitely take them next time. It was an amazing show…worth staying up way past our bedtime for 🙂
Rahul got this picture during the song Lovers in Japan.
We had to have one of the big oaks taken down before pool construction begins. The kids had a blast watching the crew climb up the tree and take it down piece by piece. This stump is all that is left. Pool construction starts next week, so the stumps will go then. We are getting super excited about our pool!!
PS – Aidan is showing off his “giant muscles” in this picture 🙂
