spring has sprung!

It is official, spring is here on Wild Azalea Lane. Want to know how I know? The wild azalea tree is in bloom, and it only blooms for 1-2 weeks a year. I am guessing this tree was the reason our road was named Wild Azalea Lane, but that is only speculation. I watch for this tree to bloom each spring, as does Samantha. It is the true sign that winter is done, which is nice since I ran with sleet hitting me in the face Monday morning. I am so done with winter!

Another sign of spring…grass that looks like a green carpet! Rahul and I worked so hard in the fall to reseed areas killed off by our regular NC summer droughts. After I mowed tonight (Aidan has a homework free week b/c his class earned that as a reward for good behavior…wooo hooo!) I just stepped back and looked at my green carpet. It is beautiful. Life is good.

going unplugged

Rahul and I went out for a dinner date Saturday night, which was such a nice treat! Our regular baby-sitter comes back from California in a month, so the much needed date nights will get back on track soon.

While we were gone, the kiddos convinced (um, lied to) the grandparents that we let them watch pre-teen TV shows. And, if that was not bad enough, they would not turn off the TV when asked to do so. The consequence from evil mom and dad was no TV for one week.

What we have heard the past 2 mornings has made it all worthwhile. Sunday, as I was making coffee, I heard them playing legos together in Aidan’s room. And, this morning, I heard them playing Go Fish together in the playroom.

So, we have decided to go unplugged M-F at the Shimpi house. After all, we survived with just cartoons on Saturday mornings.
PS – When I told Samantha we only had Saturday morning cartoons, she immediately went to daddy to double check that information 🙂

it was not meant to be…

Lets start with the good news: DOOK lost to Arizona and UNC beat Marquette in the Sweet 16. Now for the bad news…UNC lost to Kentucky this afternoon.

Samantha did her best to cheer on the Tar Heels, even wearing my 2005 Championship hat along with the trusty 2009 Championship t-shirt, but alas we did not win 😦

getting ready for the sweet 16

I am washing my 2009 Championship t-shirt so that Samantha can wear it tomorrow. I also got us some game faces from Johnny t-shirt. We are ready for tomorrow night’s game!

In the meantime, Go Wildcats! Beat DOOK!

PS – pay no attention to the little person booing behind me 🙂

Basketball Sunday

Great, on-the-edge-of-your-seat basketball today! Nana came to visit and brought Samantha her very own princess tiara. That tiara, along with my 2009 NCAA tournament t-shirt, and trusty pom pom helped UNC beat Washington to advance to the Sweet 16. Oh, DOOK also won (barely :-), blah, blah, blah.

I think the kids were a little bored today, but all good basketball loving parents neglect their children in March, right?

spring projects

Lots of spring projects happening today. Rahul assembled our new front porch swing glider, Samantha helped me nail down the bottoms of our new 2×4 garden beds, Aidan drilled holes for water drainage (with adult supervision :-), and I mowed our lawn for the first time…whew!
For dinner, we had a “picnic” at our new deck table and chairs. What a great day…I will say again, I do love spring!

spring is here!

When the sprinkler comes out, it is officially spring! The kids had a blast cooling off after school today.

Also, check out our snow peas.

Finally got the trellis up this afternoon. I cannot wait to see those peas climb up, up, up!

Spring really is my favorite season 🙂
