birthday celebrations begin!

Samantha’s grandparent party was today. MeMa brought Samantha a birthday dress and some fancy high heels. Check out the sassy b-day girl.

The kids swam, went on a treasure hunt, had cake… I could go on and on. Here are some of my favorite pics, plus a token family pic.

We went to dinner at Saffron. Aidan told the waiter that it was his sister’s birthday. The manager came out with my blog post of Aidan’s review (for more on that click here) and said she was sending out something special for Samantha. Check out her fancy dessert. Saffron is officially our new favorite family restaurant!

More celebrating tomorrow on Samantha’s actual birthday.

Aidan as the stink bug

The second graders performed Bugz, the musical today. Aidan had the honor of being the stink bug. Check out his part –

The funniest part is Ayden T’s dad in the background at the end saying “awwww, we love you Aidan.” Hahaha

$5 and 5 minutes of handy work, under water fun, new sleeping arrangement

Once we had the new door installed, I decided we needed a new door bell. Ours was plastic, old and rusting. So I spent $5 and took 5 minutes this afternoon to snazzy up the door bell. Check out my handy work –

Soccer practice was cancelled because of thunderstorms in the forecast. We decided to swim (and get out the underwater camera case). Here are few of my favorite pics. Note: I started using self-tanner tonight after seeing the pic of me 🙂

The sleepover tradition has continued. In fact, the kids getting along really well has also continued to amaze us. Tonight they made hammocks to sleep in. Not sure how comfortable they will be, but the design is good 🙂

challenging day as a parent

Wow, hard day as a parent.  At soccer practice today, I was telling a few parents how Aidan commented on someone’s checkout cart at Trader Joe’s while Samantha was at ballet. He told the shopper that he liked the Indian frozen meal she picked and added that he was born in India. One parent said, “oh, wow I thought he was yours,” which prompted me to tell Samantha  to share where she was born. I quickly added that they are BOTH mine and left it at that.

On the way home from soccer practice Samantha stared crying asking why that mom would think that “we were not yours.” Thankfully Aidan chimed in and said that families come in all shapes, sizes and colors. (This was after some coaching last year when a friend kept saying I was the babysitter and could not be his mom). The great thing about that (other than Aidan’s take away message) was Rahul’s take on it…..the kid thought I was young enough to be a babysitter…perspective, right?

Samantha is my thinker, so I need to be aware and make sure that I am taking care of her when talking about her heritage. I am super proud of both kids, and the countries they came from. How they process this information is up to us as parents…a really big responsibility.

I will ALWAYS be an advocate for adoption. It made our family complete.

family marathon and a day of soccer fun!

Samantha came home from school this week super excited about the Perry Harrison family marathon challenge. For more about this exciting activity, click here.

Today was soccer, soccer, and more soccer. Aidan had a game and Samantha had her second practice.

Aidan was team captain again today and had some great plays. Check them out.

One of the many goals:

A great pass:

Team pics were also today. I have a regular one and silly one.

random Friday updates

Wow, lots of updates here.

First, the pool is open! After 3 days of back washing, liquid chlorine shock, and adding salt, it is ready for swimmers. Of course the kids did not care that the water temperature was 65 degrees…they were ready to play in the water.

Also, a workshop update: Things have slowed down, but it is looking good. We are waiting on sheetrock, then electrical work, carpet installation. My favorite part – the new walkway! I am already brainstorming landscaping ideas and keeping a sun journal to see how much sun is around the workshop.

Lastly, more on Fireball the mischievous kitten. He has not stayed in the Invisible Fence, even with the higher correction. He only wants to go to the Mazzocchi’s to visit their cat Moonlight and dog Chato. I think we might just give up on the zap collar, but still on the fence about this. Tonight after dinner out at Tyler’s this is where I found him (no pun intended :-).

new door and fresh greens

Our front door has not worked properly in a while. Also, the last time it was stained the painters let it drip at the bottom. So, we decided to upgrade while we had folks here building the workshop. Check out the before and after pic.

For dinner tonight we had some fresh greens from the garden: arugula and red lettuce. Super yummy!
