The new fence is finally done. We probably never would have upgraded if we had not failed the pool inspection (3 yrs after the pool was built…long story there). We had to replace the fence, and so we tried to be positive about it. We went with a shadowbox privacy fence, complete with all the necessary locks/gates to pass inspection. Check it out.
New front gate.
And now for my favorite area….the place for the chickens and my chicken coop! Notice it is off to the side to make Rahul happy.
I will be happily landscaping over the new few weeks. First step, raking away many years of leaves. We probably never would have replaced the fence, but since we had to, we are trying to turn lemons into lemonade and create a back yard garden oasis 🙂
Check back soon for landscaping updates!
It is back to school time at our house. 2nd and 3rd started today. I had to take the token back to school picture, but this year I got the ol’ “mom you are embarrassing me” comment. Still, a decent pic 🙂
Both kids had great days, have friends in their classes, so life is good.
On the other hand, our after school activity schedule is out of control. Here it is for folks not bored with long lists:
M & W Samantha I will be doing Girls On The Run at Perry Harrison from 5-6pm.
One Monday a month, Aidan has Cub Scouts at 7pm.
T & Th Aidan has travel soccer practice in Pittsboro from 6-7:30pm
Fri Samantha has swim school (wants to do swim team next summer, so she needs to learn to swim).
One Friday a month Aidan has Cub Scouts at 7pm.
Sat – Aidan has either travel games (so far, Fayetteville and Wilson) or practice from 9-10:30am. Samantha ballet 11-12pm.
So, every day after school and one day each weekend we have activities. I keep thinking back to the book Outliers, and tell myself our kids will be well-rounded as a result. I am also grateful that Rahul and I both have work schedules that allow us to be a part of all these activities. Rahul will be home on M W F to do homework and hang out with Aidan while Samantha and I do Girls On The Run and swim school. Also, except for a few on call weekends, we will be able to alternate going to the kids’ Saturday activities. Not many families have that kind of flexibility, and for that I am grateful.
The calendar is color-coded, and we are ready to go!
It is hard to believe this little man is 9 yrs old. I can still remember that first night we spent together in India like it was yesterday.
Mema and PPops have been visiting since August 16th (retirement has its perks, huh?) The kids have had a blast hanging out with them. We had one final celebration at Saffron for lunch today.
Tomorrow, it is back to school. Summer is over, which makes me really sad.
We had Aidan’s family birthday party today. Fun was had by all. Here are some pics.
token family pic
train gift from PPops
Mema patched up Rahul’s old quilt with some old saris. Aidan loved it 🙂
new family game – Mancala!
balloon train party favors were a hit
Aidan is really milking his birthday week. We went out to a Mexican restaurant tonight and Aidan shared with the waitress that his birthday is coming up. Next thing you know, he has a sombrero on his head and people singing happy birthday to him 🙂
Officially celebrations start this weekend.
Another pool playdate today –
Samantha and Lucy’s peace out by the pool:
Aidan and Anderson with the floaties:
Also, the kids spent the night at Mema and PPops. This meant that I did not have my ever present alarm clock called Samantha. I woke up after 8am (gasp!) and wandered into the kitchen for my first of many cups of coffee. Then I noticed men in the back yard. I ran to the driveway to see if any trucks were there and saw Fortress fencing. It seems like our fence reconstruction started a few weeks in advance (we were originally on the schedule for the first week in Sept). I took a deep breath in and out and told myself that this would be a nice bonus, the new fence done before Aidan’s b-day party. Here is the last of our old fence:
Now for the kill. Fireball and Banjo spent most of the under our deck because of the fence construction. I found FB on the deck with this kill.
We went for a tour of the Carolina Tiger Rescue sanctuary today. It was really wet and rainy, but thankfully it was only drizzling during our tour. For more about Carolina Tiger Rescue, click here.
Now for the pictures. I left the big camera in the car because of the rain, so I only have iPhone pics to share. It was an amazing facility doing wonderful stuff for mistreated animals.
