We took Smooch on her first hike this morning. It was sunny and in the upper 50s (super warm this chilly spring!) We took a lot of pics but did not do a lot of hiking before lazy Smooch decided she was done hiking. I really have to say that I am digging on this lazy puppy. So hiking is not for her, but she is so go with the flow, relaxed and loves being loved. As I write this post she is snoozing on her back with her legs splayed open….haha. Enjoy the pics!

I have been wondering what to do with the puppy and the chickens. We also got some unpleasant chicken surprises when we came home from the lake….chicken poop all over the place! Part of this was because the cats stayed inside, but I was not happy to find chicken poop on the deck. Hence, my brilliant idea.
This was always an idea, but I am now (post poop infestation) thinking the chickens need to stay in the side area of the back yard. This is more than plenty of room for them and we have a walkway so we do not step in the chicken poop.
Bonus: when we train Smooch on the Invisible Fence in a few weeks, we can get an outdoor training disc for the chicken area. If she goes to the area she will get a correction. We have this same inside solution for George and the upstairs and he has only gotten up there once to pee because I did not put the collar on him.
So the little fence will keep the chickens in their area, invisible fence disc will keep Smooch out of the area…win-win!
Sometimes I surprise myself with my great ideas 🙂
Samantha made Banjo a special birthday snack that included his favorite thing….Cesar dog food. I am not joking. Banjo waits to lick the container after we dump it into George’s bowl every morning. Samantha added a 1 and b made out of cat treats for decoration 🙂
Banjo also got a special portrait made for his b-day. Looks authentic doesn’t it?
Both cats and George got extra love today. Good to be home 🙂
Still cold at Lake Norman, but we made lemonade out of lemons! The kids played “Survivor” for most of the morning because the fish were not biting.
Smooch joined in on the Survivor fun.
We made another fire in the fire pit and hung out there for most of the afternoon….with some tasty beverages 🙂
Not the spring break we planned, but we got lots of good quality time together. Smooch has mastered the “come” command….lots of practice on the dock, deck, woods, house, potty time, etc.
Heading home in the morning to celebrate Banjo’s 1st birthday! Another positive….the temps will be rising by 5-10 degrees each day for the rest of the week and weekend. We are ready for some warmer temps and sun!
It was *freezing* at the lake today, but we still managed to have some fun. The fish were biting this morning, and I almost caught two BIG catfish but they got off the line right at the dock. I swear I am not lying. The kids were my witnesses. We did catch a lot of sunfish and Smooch was very curious about the fish 🙂
Speaking of Smooch. She got lots of love and attention on the dock.
Going down to the dock was easier than coming back up after playing and having fun. Rahul and I took turns carrying her up. Whew, that was a work out! I can already see her older lazy self snoozing out on the dock while we come in for lunch or dinner 🙂
A friend from Charlotte came to visit with her 2 kids. It was great to see Missy. We spent the whole afternoon catching up while the kids played with each other.
Check out our heat source for the afternoon. It also doubled as a smores making station after dinner.
More pics tomorrow. Rahul took some this afternoon but saved them in the fancy high tech format and I cannot upload them here. Will share more when we are home and he can upload them on his computer.
Soccer games were at home today, and by home I mean Pittsboro. Smooch and I went to cheer on the CSL Red boys for the first game (they won 4-3!!). But then Samantha and I had to come home for Smooch’s first puppy training session. Lisa was great with everyone and loved Smooch. I started taking notes so that the whole family could be consistent with the training, and guess who else started taking notes….Samantha!
After Lisa left, Samantha said she needed to go inside for something. She reappeared with her very own treat bag….just like Lisa’s 🙂
Then we went back to Pittsboro to have dinner with some of the soccer families. See all these smiles?
Oh, and we have blue birds. I got these 2 pics this morning.
Fun Saturday for sure!
The kids really love the new puppy. Check out this pic if you do not believe me 🙂
Aidan’s friends have CSL team coats…..with their names on the back! He wanted Aidan on the back, we wanted Shimpi, so we compromised with Aidan S. There are way too many Aidans out there these days. I think this is the way I am going to get this kid to actually wear a coat without protest!
Please do not judge the crazy curls with his hair. We are in a non hair cut protest phase….pick your battles. Sigh.
