Our entire family did the Perry Harrison Run for the Mariners 5K today. Samantha wanted to run with her friend Lucy, which meant I got to run with my best running friend Liz! Rahul was super speedy and was the 5th male finisher….go daddy! This was also Aidan’s first ever race (followed by the obstacle course and 2 soccer games in Burlington….the kid should already be asleep!) Here are some pics of our fun day.

It was time to get out in the gardens today. I pulled up an entire wheelbarrow full of weeds in the front gardens before starting to dig in the dirt and plant some flowers in our newly landscaped back garden. Disclaimer: the original plan was to plant veggies in the back yard but once the leaves on the trees came in there was not enough sun in the back for veggies. No worries – Samantha and I found plants and shrubs that will re-seed each year for this area. Check out what we found and planted.
Just need to get that drainage pipe buried and it will be perfect!
There will be potato vines on each of these small trellises once the pipe is buried (right now this area gets flooded when I backwash the pool).
We found a black eyed susan vine…never seen one before!
My iris garden 🙂
Each raised bed has a blueberry bush in the center surrounded by re-seeding annuals. We got 4 different kinds of blueberry bushes – Climax, Brightwell, Tifblue, and Premier. I wonder which one will have the best berries?
Rahul snapped these pics as well, which I thought were just beautiful. 2 happy kids 🙂
Lisa the dog trainer came back today for Smooch’s second lesson. Smooch has mastered come and sit. We are still working on “leave it” especially with the cats, but with the addition of a gentle correction of a spray bottle this is getting better with each and every day.
Today we worked on “heel” for walking beside us. We need a ring collar to correctly work on this command, but we are ready to get started 🙂
We also worked on “down.” This was an easy command for our laid back puppy. You start with the sit command then you bring the treat in your hand down between her feet then out.
Lastly, we worked on some recall games with the kids. Everyone had fun. I love that the kids are included in the training. Here are some pics from our training session.
We applied for Samantha to go to the new Montessori charter school and last night we found out that she got in! To say she was excited would be a gross understatement. I snapped this pic after I told her she was accepted 🙂
The school will have grades 1-3 the first year, and add a grade with each subsequent year. This means that Samantha will be the oldest and can serve as a leader in the school. We feel like she will be great at this, especially with how confident she has become this school year. One of her best friends Zoe will also be going which will help the transition to a new school be more comforting. They have been pals since they were 4 years old. And, BEST of all, Samantha’s new friend Lucia also adopted from Guatemala got in! I see a lifelong friendship forming 🙂
As we celebrated, part of me felt badly for those that did not get in, especially the EC students who are struggling at Perry Harrison. Lotteries are rough, but for once the lottery gods were on our side. For that I will be forever grateful.
So we have the soccer academy showcase this weekend. 3 games (2 today and 1 tomorrow) in Mooresville which is 2.5hrs from our house. Oh, and Rahul is on call. Nana came and took Samantha to ballet, and after took her for her very first manicure!
Tomorrow we will all load up and head back to Mooresville for our last game. By all of us, I am mean me, Aidan, Samantha and Smooch 🙂
Speaking of Smooch, check out her pollen smile this morning. Spring is definitely here!
And, here are some soccer pics from the day (won’t be able to take any tomorrow with the pup in tow).
