MLK Celebration

This was our first experience with the Carolina Friends School MLK Celebration, and man it was one we will not forget in a long time.

Other than the keynote speaker, Bob Zellner, the most impressive part of the celebration was the middle school students and their speeches on what they stand up for. There was a speech about marriage equality, animal rights, hope and freedom to speak. To hear middle school students talk about laws and legislature they feel are discriminatory was moving.

Now for more about Bob Zellner. His speech was passionate and super engaging for the students. Click here for more about this amazing Civil Rights Activist.

Samantha asked an important question at dinner tonight: what can I do to change the world? My response: just remember what you have learned at Girls TALK – always be true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in. If you do those 2 things, you will change the world.

This was the first year that we truly celebrated MLK Day, in a way more than just reading his famous quotes. Today I am very grateful for Carolina Friends School and the important messages they help their students and families hear.

  1. Sounds like a great experience and powerful words by the middle schoolers. That age can blow you away sometimes.

Great advice from you as well, Mom…
