So, just like last week a “big” snow was supposed to come our way. It was supposed to start at noon. Samantha had an early release day from school and came home waiting for the big snow. I think we cursed the snow by purchasing a sled. It is a common Southern bad move as a parent….if you purchase anything for an upcoming snow that is actually snow-related (boots, sleds, vanilla extract for snow cream…damn, I had 2 strikes against me today!!!) then it will not snow.
Everywhere else around us got snow this afternoon. Here was poor Samantha waiting for snow with her shiny new sled.
Sigh. As we wait and hope for some snow, I will post a quote from Thomas Wolfe that a fellow Southern friend posted on Facebook. “Snow in the South is wonderful. It has a kind of magic and mystery that it has nowhere else. And the reason for this is that it comes to people in the South not as the grim, unyielding tenant of Winter’s keep, but as a strange and wild visitor from the secret North.”
