It happens once every 3 years or so, but tonight was the night….the Wilco concert. This time at the NC Museum of Art. Wow, what a great venue! We had lawn seats which means we got to sneak up close to the stage.
The kids had a new sitter from the CFS Upper School sitter list, and she was great. The fact that she also dances at Studio A was an immediate hit with Samantha 🙂
Check out my view from stage for the song Jesus, Etc. One of my favorite Wilco songs.
I went to the porta potty towards the end of the encore, and a guy asked me if I was a Wilco concert newbie. I shared that I had been a Jeff Tweedy fan since he was with Uncle Tupelo (which I thought would make me sound old). He asked if I wanted to go home with him. My reaction? Flash my emergency flashlight in his eyes, which made him say please do not arrest him. Haha.
I am glad that Rahul and I break out of our comfort zone and go out for concerts every now and then. And I am sure the next one will include the kids. I kept thinking of guitar playing Aidan during Impossible Germany. He would have loved it.
Fun date night despite the State Fair traffic, Will Call line being wrong, and long lines for adult beverages. Wilco never disappoints!
My mother in law let me know that Diwali started Thursday. Aidan had a stomach bug, so I am only now getting to post pics. It is the festival of lights, which is why we saved some sparklers for the occasion!
My in laws mailed Indian sweets to the kids which we received today. Fun times!
Rahul is an amazing dad… I just have to say that first. He planned a trip for the family to the local pumpkin farm. Why? Because we are quickly entering the phase of parenting where the kids do not want to hang out with us as much. I am so glad that we made the time to take this trip.
The first thing I noticed was how big our kids were when compared to the other kids. This did not stop them from having fun (us too!!)
Before I share pics from today, I kept seeing these 2 kids at the pumpkin farm today.
Time flies….. here are the bigger versions of these 2 from today. I will keep searching for the pause button to getting older 🙂
This is my friend’s Facebook post regarding Samantha and Sarabeth’s pretend wedding at school. I could not have said it better myself.
Do you remember holding pretend weddings in elementary school? Well, today Sarabeth is getting married. To another girl. Apparently they have been planning this for some time. The ceremony was supposed to take place last week but one of their teachers suggested they wait until this week when same sex marriage is actually legal in NC. The girls were happy to do so. They have really planned the whole thing out: rings, vows, attendants, speeches, etc. I love that my kids can play in this way and are supported and safe in their school environment. I love Carolina Friends School. And I love NC, too.
I love that the teachers turned this pretend play activity into a teachable moment and my kiddos attend a school where everyone is accepted for who they are.
So, this happened 6 times folks….
He reported that he was “lucky” because girls asked him to dance so he did not have to do the asking. There was someone special that he wanted to ask to dance but he was too nervous. She was not, and she asked him to slow dance towards the end of a song. Most of all, he had fun (and a lot of fruit punch:-) )
I do love Carolina Friends. A place where middle school can be a positive experience for young adolescents!
Right now Aidan is at his first middle school dance. A lot of time went into his outfit and getting ready. How handsome is my little man?
A lot of talk in school carpool has been about this dance. I am so grateful for Sam. He is a year older and was super helpful in answering Aidan’s questions.
1) A: Dude, I don’t know how to slow dance. S: Dude, no one knows how to slow dance. You just stick out your arms and rock back and forth.
2) A: Dude, what if I ask her to dance and she says no? S: Dude, girls are flattered when you ask them to dance. It makes them feel special. She might not like you like you like her, but she will definitely dance with you.
Aidan took his emergency phone with him so that he can text me when “the dance” happens. He went to the dance with 2 friends and was SUPER excited. Rahul is currently chaperoning, and I am DYING for an update.
Check back tomorrow morning for part two (the dance is not over until 10pm, so Samantha and I will be in dreamland when Aidan gets home).
