Here are some spring pics…because a) it is spring b) I am on “work spring break” and c) I love the camera almost more than anything else in life….
Monthly Archives: March 2015
We spent some time this weekend planning our spring break trip. Here are some of the activities on the agenda.
Obviously, the Grand Canyon….Duh.
Bearizona Wildlife Park.
Rt 66 activities, food and beer….fun!
Oh and Slide rock cliff jumping.
I cannot wait. It was the place where Rahul and I got engaged oh so many years ago. To bring our family back there is such a treat!
Our plan for renovating furniture in the living, dining and reading room is to look for special pieces that will add character to the home. We would LOVE an antique farm table for the dining room, for example. Today we went to the local antique fair and Rahul found a Vintage WW2 army foot locker. It has some of the original shipping tags on it and SO MUCH character!
The plan is to add a piece of glass on top to protect the surface and elevate it with some wood timbers and use it as a coffee table in the reading room. I swear Rahul was an interior decorator in another life!
We all LOVED antique shopping. Samantha found an old typewriter that is now on her bday gift list. Aidan snagged a 1964 issue of Life Magazine featuring Lee Harvey Oswald on the cover (the kid is a serious history buff). I found a super cool vintage bird house, but it needed some work and we could not negotiate a good price.
I did find an amazing vintage green garden bench. But, it had a big fat SOLD sign on it. Oh well. I guess this means we need to keep shopping!
Finally, right? We had a fun filled weekend. Here are some updates.
Aidan went to his first Bat Mitzvah on Saturday. Check out this handsome dude.
Sunday was the day of gardening. 20 bales of pine straw went in the back yard. Can you find Samantha, my garden helper, in this pic?
We have so many more birds this year. Not sure why. I snapped this pic of a white breasted nuthatch today when I was working at home. Those sunny skies and windows are not good for staying on task 😉
So 2 of my friends, at completely different times, have reminded me that I am not posting as regularly as I used to on our family blog. After blogging since 2006, I have become this….
Now, in my defense, I have been blogging like CRAZY on my Girls TALK blog. Click here for updates if you do not believe me.
But folks out there are itching for more Shimpi family updates, so here is a bathroom renovation update. It has been fun picking out everything! This will be our new vanity (we picked grey, not the off white in the picture).
This will be our new shower –
And the new bath tub –
We are also updating the closet with a closet organizer system, getting new door hardware throughout the house, new ceiling light fixtures, stone fireplace….and the most exciting renovation of all? A chandelier in the living room. It is going to look amazing with the new stone fireplace!
We will have most of the materials needed by the end of next week, so renovations could begin soon. Super excited about this project!
How is that for an update from a slacker?
So Rahul finally got his reading chair that was supposed to be his Christmas present. We ordered it (after a massive after Thanksgiving sale) on Dec 7th thinking it would be here around the beginning of the new year. It finally showed up last Sat. Check it out.
Today I finally got my Valentine’s Day present….leaf clean up for the spring. In the fall, I work really hard to keep the leaves off the grass, but keeping them off the flower beds and other non grass areas is just too much. But as much as I love my V day gift (late b/c of all the snow and winter weather) the work in the yard has just begun. Once all the leaves were gone, I saw all the little acorns that fell from our oak next to the deck that we had taken down in the fall. I offered my sweet gardening lover Samantha extra allowance to help me clean them up. Wish us luck!
