Aidan’s camera died after the second day of his DC trip (I am guessing he forgot to turn it off because it was fully charged when he left). He did get a few good pics that I wanted to share.

Samantha’s spring recital was today. Because she and Ila are performance dancers, they served as helpers for a 3-4yr old class of purple dragonflies in Quest. She performed in the second recital, Space and Time, with her Hip Hop class. Super proud of Samantha…and it does seem like just yesterday that she was one of those 3-4 yr olds at the recital…sigh. I do love the girl she is becoming.
My Mother In Law gave me a really nice suet feeder for our back yard. I hung it and within days I had pileated woodpecker and lots of other birds. Oh, and this guy.
Ricky the raccoon really liked my suet. My first plan was to secure the top lid with twine. When Ricky couldn’t get the suet from the top, he pushed up the grate from the bottom to get the suet out. Sigh. Not to be out beaten, I super glued the bottom grate. Haha. Take that Ricky.
2 days later Ricky knocked the whole feeder to the ground and ate all the suet out. Ugh.
Still not ready to be out beaten, I have a new plan. I am not proud of this plan, but it might work…. put the feeder in the workshop at night. Sigh. A pain, but I think this might be the only way for me to enjoy the birds by day without paying $5/day to feed Ricky by night.
Wish me luck!
Aidan went to Washington DC for a school trip this week. At Carolina Friends School, they call these trips Exploratoriums. The last 3 weeks of the school year, students pick 3 areas to study in depth for one week. His first week was Exploring State Parks. His group researched and visited 4 state parks. The second week? Exploring National Treasures…..which meant a week long trip to Washington DC, complete with staying in a college dorm! Each student had to research a topic and prepare a power point. Surprisingly, Aidan picked the Air and Space Museum.
This was the first time Aidan had been away from home for more than a few days with someone other than grandparents, so we missed him a TON! But it was fun to hear all of the stories of all the fun he had.
Just one more reason to love Carolina Friends School. His friends in public school spent the week taking End Of Grade Testing. We have chosen meaningful learning for both kiddos and have not regretted it once.
Last week I took a break from everything in my life other than my 2 Girls TALK lessons and getting my kiddos to school and activities. Rahul practically shoved me out the door to go to my morning work out today, knowing that I needed it. I went reluctantly.
But, after some trap bar dead lifts.
And other sweat inducing activities, I felt SO MUCH BETTER.
I came home and mowed the front yard and worked in the garden. More sweat, more feeling better.
Time with my amazing family and Carolina burgers for dinner rounded out the day. Here are a few pics of the pool antics from today.
Feeling grateful for my little family today. We all love each other and are happy and healthy. These are things we should never take for granted.
We invited some friends over for a Memorial Day party thinking there was no way everyone would come….. most did. We thought about canceling the party, but what would we have done instead? I declared the party “on” and we started planning for how to feed 25 people.
Rahul is always an amazing host, grilling and grilling and grilling.
There was a no Paparazzi request at the get together, but I was still able to get a few pics of the fun.
First, Miss Mabrey.
The girl ran from the steps into the shallow end to the ladder at the deep end where her super, patient dad (with a good back) dipped her under to her delight…repeat more than 100 times.
Both of these great friends were at the party….a miracle since Christa and her family have been in Belgium for the last 3 years. In fact, at their going away party Courtney announced that she was PREGNANT with baby Mabrey. My how time flies.
Aidan played a guitar solo for us. Most impressive? Jamie started singing along once he strummed because he knew the song! My little man might actually be a real guitar player.
Now for my favorite story of the evening. When it was time to leave, Miss Mabrey was having none of it. Trying to help out, I declared that we were closing the pool. Miss Mabrey thought about this for a minute and then asked “poo closed?” I will remember that question for so long. And her face with that innocent question will always make me chuckle when I think about it. Poo closed? Haha.
Today was better. Rahul is back home from his work conference, which makes life so much easier. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved and needed my special Samantha time, but having my special sweetie to help me process all that is going on in my head has been such a relief.
Samantha and I were out in the back yard this afternoon and saw a butterfly like this one. My mom LOVED butterflies.
We decided that each time we see a butterfly to say “hi Nana, we miss you.”
